Melissa Nichols graduated in 2000 from Washington
& Lee University School of Law, where she was Lead Articles Editor of the
Washington & Lee University Law Review. She began her professional career as
a judicial clerk for the Honorable Joseph R. Goodwin, United States District
Judge of the Southern District of West Virginia.
Melissa concentrates her practice in business tort litigation, complex
insurance defense and products liability cases. She has experience
litigating catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Before moving to
Greenville, South Carolina, Melissa practiced in Alexandria, Virginia
and the District of Columbia, where she also served as an adjunct instructor
of legal writing at American University’s Washington College of Law.
Prior to law school, Melissa worked as an Associate Account Executive
for Travelers Insurance in the Baltimore, Maryland office of the Special
Liabilities Group. At Travelers, she handled a variety of environmental and
toxic tort claims.
Melissa is a volunteer grant writer for Lapsits for Early Literacy, a
Greenville area nonprofit organization that encourages parents and
caregivers to read to their young children. She is also a member of the
International Center of the Upstate and participates in the ICU’s book club.
