Ellen Cheek’s practice focuses on all areas of general litigation including
business torts, contract disputes, professional liability defense and
insurance litigation. Ellen also advises clients regarding contract matters,
including drafting, negotiation and dispute resolution, and regarding
statutory compliance and employment issues.
Ellen graduated with distinction from the University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill, where she earned her membership in Phi Beta Kappa and
completed her studies in three years. She received her Doctor of Law, with
distinction, from Emory University School of Law. While at Emory, she was a
member of and coach for the Moot Court Society’s Special Teams, and served
as a legal research and writing instructor.
Following law school, Ellen practiced law in Atlanta for six years,
litigating general tort, contract and land use cases and representing local
school systems. In 2001, she returned to her hometown of Spartanburg to
serve as associate counsel to a locally-based corporation, in which position
she focused on contracts and employment matters. Ellen resumed private
practice in 2003 with Wilkes Bowers, P.A.’s predecessor firm.
Ellen lives in Spartanburg with her husband and two children. As a
member of the UNC Rams Club, she travels as frequently as possible to Chapel
Hill. She also teaches adult Sunday school at St. Paul United Methodist
Church in Spartanburg.
