Dan Atkinson is an Associate in the firm’s
Spartanburg office. His practice focuses on all areas of general litigation
including professional liability defense, construction litigation, personal
injury defense, insurance litigation, business torts and education law. Additionally, Dan
has represented several licensed professionals before administrative
agencies. Dan has also advised several school districts on administrative
matters, including athletic eligibility issues.
Dan graduated cum laude from Furman University, where he served as a Furman
Advantage Teaching Fellow and where he was recognized by the Daughters of
the American Revolution as his class’ Outstanding Student in American
History. While at Furman, Dan served as a Student Athletic Trainer for the
Paladin Athletic Program, working primarily with the Football, Baseball,
Men’s Basketball, and Men’s Soccer Teams. Dan also served as South
Carolina’s Student Athletic Trainer for the 1996 Shrine Bowl of the
Carolinas All-Star Football Game.
He received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Washington and
Lee University School of Law, where he served as an instructor in legal
research and writing. While at Washington and Lee, Dan was active in Moot
Court, and he was recognized as Best Oralist at American University’s
Mid-Atlantic Regional for the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court
Competition. Following law school, Dan clerked for the Honorable J. Derham
Cole, Chief Administrative Judge for the Seventh Judicial Circuit of South
Carolina.
A native of Laurens, South Carolina, Dan is a second-generation Furman
graduate. He is an active member of Furman’s Paladin Club, and he currently
volunteers as legal counsel to the Medical Committee for the Shrine Bowl of
the Carolinas All-Star Football Game. He serves in numerous volunteer
capacities within the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
With deep family roots in high school sports, Dan has also served on the
medical staff and as tournament director for several high school wrestling
tournaments in South Carolina
